Personal Inner Rehearsals

Practice the voice you want beside you when it matters.

A personal Inner Rehearsal is an audio track made for one person: you. Think guided affirmations, written from your own words. We talk about what you're facing or reaching for, I write the script, and I record it in my own voice with music. Then it's yours to listen to, speak along with, and come back to.

It starts with a short form. You don't pay anything until we've agreed on the details by email.

Words you practice
until they're yours.

Inner Rehearsals are immersive audio experiences that help you practice being on your own side and carry that voice into what you do next. Spoken voice and music, layered together. Some lines you just listen to. Some you answer, or say out loud.

The public ones are written around a general theme. A personal one is written around your situation, in language that sounds like you.

Bring what matters.
We can start there.

A conversation you care about. A creative step you want to take. A little more room to be yourself in an ordinary day. Or something still taking shape that you can't quite name yet.

You don't need a polished explanation before getting in touch. A sentence or two is enough.

From a short note
to a finished track.

  1. Tell me a little about you.

Fill in the short form below. I read every request and write back personally.

  2. We agree on the details by email.

We talk through what the rehearsal is for, and I send the price, dates and terms in writing. If you want to go ahead, payment reserves your spot. Nothing is owed before this point.

  3. We meet on video.

We get to know each other and talk about where you are now and where you'd like to go. I listen for the words that land for you. With your permission, I record the call and send you a private copy.

  4. I write it, you shape it, I record it.

I write your script from our conversation. You read it and send me one round of changes. Then I perform it in my own voice, deliver it privately with simple listening notes, and check in with a short written follow-up once you've had time with it.

What you
get.

I'm Derek.

(part mystic, part mad scientist)

For years, I've been recording words for myself and returning to them in everyday life. That practice has helped me move through a career change, divorce, and the loss of a parent. It's also been part of finding more freedom in my creative life.

Improv is a big part of that life. I was terrified after signing up for my first class and wanted to back out. I went anyway and fell in love with it. Many performances later, I can't picture my life without it.

Inner Rehearsals grew out of that practice. A personal one is me making for you the kind of recording I've been making for myself.

Before you ask.

Whose voice will I hear?

Mine. Your words and preferences shape what I say.

Do I need to know exactly what I want?

No. A sentence or two is enough to start. We can explore the idea together before deciding whether this is a fit.

How much does it cost?

I'm working to keep these as affordable as possible while giving each one the time and care it needs. I'll share the price by email once I know what you have in mind, along with the full scope and terms in writing, before you decide.

When do I pay?

After we've agreed on the scope, price, dates and terms in writing, and before our video call. Sending a request doesn't commit you to anything.

Can I change the script?

Yes. You get one round of changes before I record. We agree what that round covers in writing before you pay.

What if I have more than one idea?

Mention it in your request. We can work out together what makes sense.

Will our conversation and my rehearsal stay private?

Yes. I'll ask before recording our call, and both the call recording and your rehearsal are delivered privately to you. I don't publish either one. Read the privacy notice.

Do I need a subscription?

No. This is a one-time commission, separate from Substack and the public rehearsals. It includes a short written follow-up and no ongoing calls.

Let's begin
with you.

Tell me what brings you here. I'll write back personally, and we can talk it through by email before you decide anything.

Checking the request form…

Your rehearsal request

This is where I'll write back.

Something you're moving toward, something you're navigating, or simply what caught your interest. A few words or bullet points are enough.

Anything else you'd like me to know? (optional)

Share only what you're comfortable sharing. This request won't add you to a mailing list. Privacy notice.
